Blistonia Conflict Chronicles - Great Continent

Day in Court
Avandra's Mists - Courthouse

The party resumed at the Harkness, after Ekemon and Maritza found their contacts and what they needed to know.

Guards began filtering through the crowd to the Servant's kitchenette where Rajis and Helena were hiding out. Ekemon, Maritza and Kobaine meet up and con the guards and find their way into the kitchenette and block the door, then find Rajis and Helena, who are fighting off a few disarmed guards.

Maritza and Kobaine murder a few guards, and Ekemon leaves before he's culpable. The four of them leave after dispatching the guards, and head back to The Olive Branch. They wake in the morning to have found Rajis having left – feeling personally responsible for the deaths of the guards, he had handed himself in.

Hank never found his way home.

That morning, Ekemon's contact, a skeezy elf, knocked on the door and recited who the buyer of all the daemonic items and other things. Casting a spell, he described a figure hooded and robed, but whom could have been none other than Magistrate Gareth.

The party headed to the court and attended as witnesses – the prosecution delivering a case and opening statement that seems water tight against Oscar Maidestone. However, the proceedings go far from quickly, with many Magistrates calling out the facts for additional fact checking – filibustering the time until the mid-day break. The only witnesses called with first hand evidence was a scholar from the university who knew of Oscar's magics and testified that he would have been capable of this. The other witness was an eyewitness who saw Oscar take restricted goods, books, and ingredients that are restricted that could have been reasonably used for the purposes described in the atrocity.

The group decides to go and collect some evidence – either Gareth's Ledger, or meet Oscar and get his story, or find some other crack in the prosecution's case.

Stranger Things and The Harkness
About town and Avandra's Mists

Ekemon meets up with his fence, alongside Kobaine, and trades the Devil's armor for 110 gold and some information about whom has done some trading of occult devil summoning things.

They have to meet Silver Mask at Club Harkness, and give the keyword "Last Week's Evening".

The party head to Harkness all dressed up, but get turned back at the door because the club would be at capacity – only Hank could enter. Ekemon tries to cast a spell, but instead garner the suspicion of the guard, so the party leaves.

Rajis and Helena leave and return with all the party's equipment and Hank breaks in by scaling to the roof.

Kobaine snuck in earlier by pretending to be the night's entertainment.

Maritza gets in on the arm of an influential gentleman, Lord Solendis.

Kobaine, on a break, opens up the side door and lets Helena, Rajis, and Ekemon in the side.

Maritza finds King James, and they head to a quiet gallery and King James informs Maritza that his father has been up to some kind of embezzlement – taking bribes from many other lords which total over 15,000 gold pieces. He also found some encoded documents which he could only partly decipher – that there's something going on tomorrow.

Ekemon dons his mask and manages to find Silver Mask. After making some small talk, he brings up the code word and Silver Mask shoos away the other conversationalists before asking Ekemon to take a poison pill that will make him die in 3 days – his only antidote will be provided to him by the Captain of the Tornia, at the docks of Avandra's Mists – Captain Aleson.

Silver Mask will have a contact meet Ekemon at The olive branch and give him as much information about the moved goods – hoping that Ekemon will be acting in the interests of removing this trouble from Silver Mask.

Libraries, Offices, and a day of preparation
Avandra's Mists - About town

After the Devil, slain by the party, is mutilated by Hank, Maritza sets off with King James to return to The Olive Branch.

Hank and Ekemon have a brief tiff about a cursed set of Armour that Ekemon pulled off the dead devil. Ekemon scorched him when Hank raised his hand against Ekemon – and told him to never touch him again. Kobaine found some Jet stones, in the eyes of the golems they fought.

They head back to the Olive Branch, and rest for the evening.

In the morning they discuss with King James the potential impact of the attack, and what is up with the whole Oscar Maidstone case that they've been "invited" to present witness at.

After some convincing King James agree to spy on his father – Magistrate Gareth James – and find out what he can about the case on the Morrow. They'll meet at The Harkness to discuss what he's able to find.

On King James' advice, they visit Madame Carmen Paladius who agrees to represent them at the court day tomorrow – she didn't recognise them from The Harkness the night before.

Ekemon scopes out a Fence to buy the Cursed Armour. Kobaine goes out to sell his Jet, and makes 25 gold. Maritza and Hank hang out at the bar and drink, while Ekemon goes to the library to discover what he can about the devil. He find a mysterious book, potentially recently checked out by the looks of the shelves. Ekemon pockets the book, and makes his way out of the library.

The party reconvenes at the Olive Branch to meet first with Ekemon's fence, then later with King James at The Harkness.

The Devil in the Detail
Avandra's Mists - Alleys outside The Harkness Club

Maritza and King James leaves the club and begin to walk down the alleys to discuss the Maidstone trial, and James reveals that he is the son of Magistrate Gareth James. Visitors – likely nobelmen and courtiers – have been visiting the Magistrate in his apartment late in the evening with generous bribes and discussion the case in whispers.

Kobaine sees them leave and follows them out. Hank and Ekemon realise half the party of missing go to investigate. Just as Kobaine is catching up with them, some creatures waiting above drop down on them to attack.

Hank and Ekemon race in to the rescue, Ekemon using Samedi to cast protection spells on Maritza. The attacking silhouettes drop on top of James and Maritza and immediately pummel them to the ground.

In a bloody fight, Kobaine and Hank tear in to the would-be assailants – Golems, made of flesh and bone – to pieces.

Maritza rolls away, escaping with her life. Using some of Hank's javelins she pins a Golem and a magical creature on the roof to the ground.

The horrifying visage on the roof is throwing bolts of balefire, and hits Ekemon twice, before it is pinned to the ground. Hank deftly scales the building after dealing with the Golems and ends the devil's life.

The party takes a breath – and it is the stroke of midnight.

The Harkness Ball
Avandra's Mists - The Harkness Club

The party agree to go to the Harkness as an entourage, renting some fine clothes along the way.

Maritza and Hank standover a tailor to get free rental fine clothes made. Definitely a crime.

Kobaine stitches together a costume from various items to get by with a minor illusion at the ball.

Ekemon rents some fine clothes from a Tailor that the party hadn't insulted or robbed.

They meet in the early evening at the Harkness club – it's grand ballroom and finery flabbergasting the party as they enter.

They split up, attempting to get information from the patrons of The Harkness.

Kobaine speaks with Mr Oldmans and Lady Louise but doesn't find out anything useful. Ekemon likewise finds little of use when speaking with Lord Palius and Lady Carmen.

Hank walks into the servants kitchen and bribes a servant for information – and whilst they aren't at first forthcoming, he eventually finds out that Oscar Maidestone has been framed – and everyone at the Harkness knows it.

Maritza dances on the ballroom floor – admittedly quite well. She is joined by another dancer, and after a brief dance off, they stop, and the man introduces himself as King James – Mr King James, the name not the title.

They talk for a while, but when Maritza presses him on the Maidestone case, he tells that the case will be concluding in 5 days at the courthouse. When she presses him about the conditions Maude and Oscar he became quite cagey, and whispered to Maritza something that she doesn't quite catch – but the end of it was "…get us both killed". Maritza convinces James to come and talk with her more privately.

Meet Hank
The tavern "Olive Branch" in Avandra's Mists.

While Ekemon and Maritza are talking to Helena about her new identity (Jane Ruble – apprentice huntress) Kobaine enters the tavern and sees on old war buddy.

After sharing a few drinks, Hank agrees to help the party out with investigation in to what happened at the University with Oscar Maidestone.

Discussion in the University Jail House
The first morning in Avandra's Mist

After the arrest at Maude's apartment, the party were marched off to a drunk-tank cell.

While they waited, they discussed a cover story for Helena, who instead would have an Alias of Jane Ruble, an apprentice hunter.

About 30 minutes pass before a Magistrate (Gareth) appears and begins to have conversations with the members of the party individually.

He speaks to each of them, to try and bring the truth about how they came to be at Maude Maidstone's presence.

Each of them in turn gave the story of how they had come to Avandra's Mists to deliver news to Mrs Maidstone about a recent death in her family.

Seemingly satisfied with the answers, the Magistrate asks them to check in at the courthouse in the coming days to attend the hearing of Mrs Maidstone.

The party walks to a nearby tavern and gets two rooms together, and they begin to plan how they'll spend their days in Avandra's Mists.

Avandra's Mists At Last
In the Sage's College

The party travel from Edinbourne with the Captain of the 'Heir of Seafoam' and they make the journey to the sea and up to Avandra's Mists in just shy of three days.

On the journey, Ekemon and Maritza are sea sick, and despite this Maritza tries unsuccessfully to teach Helena the panflute. Kobaine makes an idiot of himself by trying to show her up, but jams his lips on the flute.

They arrive at the Mist's waterfall and go to the courthouse to find Helena's remaining family.

After exploring the first location, and meeting with a young Professor Maidstone, they travel to the Sage's College and meet with a woman, Maude Maidstone, who recognises Helena, invites them into her apartment.

Ekemon feels that something is up, and asks for proof that Maude knows Aubrey. She produces an old letter, and Ekemon reads it – but believes that something is still amiss. Questioning Maude, the party discovers that Maude's children and husband are not around – and that the previously unforetold security at the college is due to an experiment or spell that went awry and ended up killing her children. Ekemon suspects the perpetrator was her husband who she confirmed was under federal arrest for Treason.

While the party is about to leave a knock at the door draws Maude away from them, and a soldier demands they all leave – and that they are under arrest.

The Banshee Encounter
The haunted house at Edinbourne

The freshly reunited party go down to the docks to investigate the disturbance on the docks, and discover that it's two quarreling parties – from two different trading vessels. A merchant group of dwarves in front of a riverbed longboat, fighting with a group of Elven traders on a larger seafaring vessel.

Maritza and Kobaine talk the first mate of the elves down from starting a fist-fight, and board their ship and begin to tell him about the thing they saw earlier in the day.

Meanwhile Rajis spoke with the dwarves to see what they knew.

They all shared the same story – that no-one saw anything, but a flash of light near the loch. The scout of the Elven ship saw two dwarves around the same time his captain disappeared, and therefore drew the conclusion that the dwarves had taken the captain.

Maritza shared what they knew, and suspected that the captain was infact the prisoner of the ghostly creature they fought in the abandoned outskirts of town.

The elven sailors ventured out ahead of the party, raring for a fight to rescue their captain. The party, with Helena in tow, followed but were not able to keep up due to Rajis' exhausted state.

As they approached the building they heard the creature's wail, and feared the worst.

Coming up to the front door, they saw the body of a fallen Elven sailor get dragged into the house, which the creature – now horribly deformed and scarred – was arranging in some kind of sick marionette/mannequin arrangement.

Maritza rushed in to fight, and stabbed at it with a dagger enchanted with thorns. The creature struck back, dealing a critical blow to Maritza. Rajis, exhausted though he was, run in and pummeled the creature which he recognized as a Banshee with his Maul – channeling his divine energies. Maritza finished it off with a keen shot from her bow.

The party managed to resuscitate 4 of the 8 Elves and the ice around the 9th Elf melted in the room – and Rajis and Kobaine recognised the Elf – not only as the Captain of the vessel for whom they searched, but as the Elf who had approached them at the Stut in Madron-don.

The survivors venture outside into the light of the sun.

Reunited at last
Midday at Edinbourne

Ekemon, Kobaine and Maritza awake to find that in the night someone (or some thing) has frozen the loch at the exit to the harbor. Ekemon tries to discern the nature of the ice, but can only find that it's not of naturally formed.

They cast about and after asking in the taverns for anything suspicious they head to the outskirts of town searching for something out of place. They stumble across an abandoned cottage which had the front door left open. Upon venturing in they found a casket of ice, encasing a humanoid.

Ekemon cast a spell to sense a creature's thoughts within the ice, and immediately got the sense of intense hatred vengeance directed at Maritza. He immediately casts attacking spells at the ice, and after a few moments of combat a ethereal creature emerged from the casket – leaving the shape of a body entombed within.

The spirit creature unleashed a terrible wail, and Kobaine and Maritza collapsed. Ekemon remained standing, and the creature turned to him and said in a terrible, saddened twisted Elvish "I just want to be with my lover!" and she returned to the casket with the other creature in the ice.

Ekemon waited with his comrades until they awoke and then left, headed back to town. Meanwhile they reached the bridge in town headed to the Tavern to rest and ran into Rajis and Helena who had caught a wagon back into town.

As they caught up after seeing each other for the first time in a week, a commotion breaks out on the harbor dockside below…
